Server downtime, much to do
Nov 7th, 2005 by Anders Kringstad

Netcore decided it was time to replace good old igloo (that had been online since 2000) with a new machine — thus ‘njaal’ was born. But.. How annoying can it be when a server does not want to play nicely? What can you do when 40 hours of install is all in vain due to some lame motherboard? Well.. We finally got it all figured out and the server now hums happy along.

Elsewere I’ve taken up workouts again — alot of them. Since I bought me and Jorunn a year each at 3T membership card for our 1 year anniversary I’ve had about 10-12 workouts. Sometimes twice a day! If I keep this up I’ll be back at 77 kg’s in no time.. or maybe not :>

What’s going on in your life lately? Keep me posted šŸ™‚

One year have gone by.
Oct 20th, 2005 by Anders Kringstad

One year have gone by.
One year with your love in my life.
A year I can not forget.

Oh how precious
the things we have are.
As time goes –
it has come clear to me;
With you, my love,
I’m finally free.

To my dearest Jorunn on our 1 year anniversary.

One year ago today I changed my website to include this graphic.
One year ago today I changed my .plan on the Samfundet-servers to look like this.
One year ago today I became a whole person because of you.

Can you think of other things that happened to me today one year ago?
Do tell!

SMTP-trouble
Oct 17th, 2005 by Anders Kringstad

They did it again! The network-provider at home (Nexans Distribution Trondheim) shut down _ALL_ SMTP-traffic from the buildingcomplex. How the heck can they do this and not inform the people living here he evow to send email? Do they really believe that everyone uses webmail? I actually prefer IMAP with a reasonable good configured client — Evolution in Gnome, mutt in the shell.

So, what can one do when all your SMTP-connections are shut down? (Port 25 blocked outgoing for the forseable future.) The problem-solver proved to be Tollef, again. This time his very good authenticated email relaying through SMTP-SSL (with configuration examples for Postfix and Exim).

Ofcourse I could set this up at one of my own mailservers with SMTP-auth on some weird port, but why bother just yet when there is such a service available around the corner?

Thank you Tollef!

ITK dinner, Samfundet
Oct 16th, 2005 by Anders Kringstad

Yesterday we had another great dinner with ITK. A total of 22 people (yes, that’s a huge group) gathered at Sesse‘s apartment and had dinner. It was much fun to again meet with the former active ITK’ers, who always have insight and news about your own mistakes to tell you — Like that little fact that we did not have enough food (there’s always lack of food when ITK have dinners), or perhaps the mistake that we did not have enough dessert either.

After the dinner we went to Samfundet and took two group pictures; one in the round hall (Rundhallen) and one in the serverroom. To pack 16 people into the serverroom took quite some time, i’d tell you, but you probably know.

To everyone who was there: Thank you, it was a lovley evening.

Elected: A new hat for me (FRISK)
Oct 16th, 2005 by Anders Kringstad

As the autumn sets in I’ve gotten a new hat to wear.

Yesterdays election in the organisation behind Skolelinux (FRISK) gave me something new to work with. I’m proud to inform you that I’ve been elected to hold a seat on the board. I’ll be a part of the board along with such wonderful people like Frode Jemtland and Morten Werner Olsen, who have laid down much work for the project.

I’m really looking forward to the work, and it’s with much respect and humbleness I have accepted the seat. The former board leaves behind a great legacy and I hope we’ll be able to treat it good and nurse the whole project forward to another great release.

The Internet and I
Oct 11th, 2005 by Anders Kringstad

Today I would like to describe a subject I have been thinking about for a while. The Internet, and how it affects me.

Every morning I open my laptop, unlock the screensaver and open / resume Firefox. While Firefox opens up the usual gang (The Register, /., Adressa, VG, digi) I read my email briefly. The five main identities that make up my mailbox are automaticly sorted and emails are stored in folders acording to their subject/purpose (I use Evolution for this, thank you).

Back from Spain
Oct 3rd, 2005 by Anders Kringstad

Okay, someone may have noticed; We’re back from Spain!
The pictures from the trip also have been published, sortof. They can be found in the gallery. For lazy people: Here’sĀ a link.

I think 12 days was about enough. In the end I really missed a normal, propper Internet-connection, more than three norwegian people at one time, and I missed Nerdhaven. Coming home was very nice, and I belive Jorunn too enjoyed going home.

The trip to Spain helped me get some time offline, sleep long mornings and sunbath at some beaches. Time off can be very good from time to time, but it’s d*mn good to be back too. I also found time to learn a bit about Spanish red wine. A bottle of Faustino no. I have been put in the shelf for later use šŸ™‚

In other news; UKA-05 begins in a mere 4 days. Brace yourself for beer, concerts and fun!

Still in Spain
Sep 16th, 2005 by Anders Kringstad

Herro everyone back home!

We’re in Spain still. It’s very very good down here. Just wanted to let you know šŸ™‚ Today we had a chilling 36C in the shadows at most. Some winds but regulary nice sun and a lot of hours have been spendt by the pool. Two days ago we took time to go to the beach of La Zenia, and enjoyed the waves of the ocean.

We will publish images and a longer text when we got time, perhaps on Sunday or Monday. Going home next Friday, so we got a whole week left.

If there’s anything, let us know, by email, SMS or perhaps if needed, call šŸ˜‰

The long leave
Sep 9th, 2005 by Anders Kringstad

Right.
I’ll be taking Jorunn with me and go to Spain on Sunday. Before that it’s Geek Pizza today at 19, packing, going to Oslo by train Saturday morning and seeing some of the sights in Oslo.

Samfundet is back on track I feel. Things seem to be running better day by day. Wish I could be there AND be in Spain at the same time. Too bad there is no teleports available just yet.

TTYAS.
