The fatburning geek returns to the trenches, TFG 2005
Jan 5th, 2005 by Anders Kringstad

It’s a new year, and what better way than to start the year with some fatburning? Oh yes. The webpages of www.slim-akai.biz is back to life and as of this morning I am on a diet. No more huge christmas dinners, no more cookies. Water, sparkling water, slices of dark and crisp bread and lowfat everything. Hello 2005; we’re on to you.

First leg: fatburning. Status: gained 3 KG permanently during christmas. Weight: 80 KG. Goal: 75 KG. Let’s go, see you at the gym.

New year, new things? Happy birthday Jorunn <3!
Jan 4th, 2005 by Anders Kringstad

So 2004 passes and the year 2005 lay before us. I sit back from time to time and wonder what a new year will bring. Does a new year mean that you get a new chance to do things you did wrong the past year right? For some things you may. Like taking an exam you did not pass, or rebuilding a webpage you destroyed. Other things are not possible to do over. Giving new life, taking life, commiting undoable acts of good or bad. So. What will the year 2005 bring for me?

There’s lots of positive things that I have been thinking of in the first four days. First; Jorunn turns 23 today. Happy birthday – the gifts are in place and things are in motion that can not be undone (so be ready at 1700 please?). Then, I’m on the move. In August I move in at Nedre Elvehavn and thus an era will be over and a new one will begin this year. My own home, bought for me, by me. Cool stuff. Next up there is something I have been wanting to do for 5 years. Going to the family cabin out on the small island of ‘Tjønnøya’ outside the larger island of ‘Frøya’. It’s been in the family since 1901. I also hope to pass some exams.

Anyways. At 1700 today I’m going to give Jorunn her birthday present, or maybe a little later; have to eat some food first. Stay tuned for information about what and when and such.

Christmas 2004, wrap it up.
Dec 27th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

Okay. Christmas 2004 is somewhat over now. It’s the third day after Christmas Eve (as we call the 24th here), and we’re all sound and good about the presents, the food and such. I’m currently at work. The only day I’m working between Christmas and new-years. I actually managed to oversleep. Way to go.

I’ve had by far my share of food now I think. I feel like a big stuffed turkey. Christmas Eve we had dinner rather early since my brother had to go to the airport to be a guard at the military base he’s stationed at after finishing his officer courses. It was rather weird opening presents at 1400 in the afternoon, but atleast we got something to talk about during dinner at 1500. This year it was only me, my dad, my stephmom Eva and my brother Halvard. We opened presents, ate dinner and talked and had a good time until my brother left at 1700. After that I settled down on the sofa with some of the new items I got for Christmas. So what did I get? There’s the alarm-clock from Jorunn. It talks! I mean, seriously, it talks! ‘Alarm on’. ‘Alarm off’. ‘Kykkeli-kyy!’. Amazing! It’ll be nice to put it in service and see if it will help me improve my sleeping habits even more in 2005 🙂 In adition there’s a bunch of books. Worth mentioning among them are ‘The DaVinci Code’ in both norwegian and english, the cartoon ‘Pondus – Flat firer’. Ofcourse my dad had gone and bought ‘Lord of The Rings: Return of The King Extended Edition DVD set’ and that put me all smiling the rest of the evening. Also I got a new suitcase with trolley wheels and a nice grip on top, a new tshirt, a few more books, a few items for the bathroom and some money earmarked for buying stuff for my new home next summer. Fine. Now. Let’s wrap Christmas 2004 so I can go to Røros and visit Jorunn. Oh how I miss her. We talk on the phone a lot, but it does kind-of not help.

On Christmas day we went to Church near my dads house, me, him and my stephmom. They were both dressed in their national dress. My dad got his for Christmas and wore it for the first time. It looked good on him. After Church a friend of my dad came by while we were standing outside the church and after saying hello he asked my dad; ‘So, this is your brother?’ (pointing at me). OKAY. So I may look old, and I may look ‘grown up’ in my suit and all, but HEY. My dad took it as a compliment, and I got a tad insulted. But coming to think of it, we could have been. I’m soon 24, he’s 48. After this we walked back to the house and had some food again. ‘Christmas brunch’ as it’s called. Then I walked up the hills to my grandfather and grandsmothers house and had dinner with them, my mom, stephdad and halfbrother who were there. Got a ride down again with the car, picked up my gifts and headed home.

Last night, there was more food! Again! This time at my uncles house, my dads brothers house. We had some nice lamb meat and the usual stuffing along with it. After this I went to Samfundet, and had a few beers. Like 6, or when I come to think of it, 8, along with a shot. Talked to Tormod some, who were a guard at the ‘2nd day of Christmas party’. I’ve never seen Samfundet so filled up with teenagers. I got a bit upset with that and left early to get sleep before work.

Now, we’re four people at work today, and our biggest problem is what to buy for lunch. Pitty. Dinner at my moms house later today I think, if I still can think of food.

The day before Christmas
Dec 23rd, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

As Christmas 2004 grows near I came to think of this Christmas-song that I really wish to hear sometime soon. Don’t know why it’s this one that popped into my head as there is so many that could have done so. Anyways.

Anderas (falxx) is going to Ukraine today to be an election observer on behalf of the Student parliament. Wish him luck and that he’ll have a safe trip and return for our newyears party without any harm done or seen. Fingers crossed my friend.

Now, it’s five more days until I get to see Jorunn again, and between that it’s the Christmas parties galore; Christmas eve will be spendt with my dad and stephmom and my brother. In the morning on Christmas day we’re having some food at their house. No dinner planned for Christmas day yet, and that’s quite ok. The 26th I’m going to Mads’ (Madsy) house for breakfast. For dinner there’s another dinner at my uncles (my dads brother) house. The 27th there’s yet another dinner, at my moms house. To ad up there’s also Club-Wonderland in the evening both the 26th and the 27th. So comes the 28th. Røros. Jorunn. 🙂

2 months; mark your calendar
Dec 20th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

Today marks the 2 month anniversary as a couple for me and Jorunn. To make sure she thought I had forgotten the whole thing I decided not to say anything about it, and acted darn surprised when she tried to inform me about what day it was as I was about to go to sleep. Sure. At 04:30, one hour late (due to me screwing up the alarm on my cellphone) she got two longstemed red roses, that I had bought earlier in the day, and kept hidden out in the cupboard. After giving her the roses I slept another three hours, and got up in time to get to work at 09:00. Jorunn took the bus to town to do some shopping before leaving (*sob*) to Røros for Christmas.

At work now. Not much happening here. Trying to do something called quality check on my documentation of the Linux-servers, but it’s boring and takes a lot of time. I already long for the 28th of December when I will go to Røros to visit her. Hm, I think I’m slightly obsessed. Is that good?

Deeper and deeper
Dec 17th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

There’s something special about the moment before something very good or very bad happens. It’s like everything fades and the colors blur. That’s how I feel now. At 15:00 we’re going to have our Christmas Lunch here at work. At 20:00 I’m going to Kings Cross to hook up with a bunch of friends. Enough said. There will be alcohol, and I will be drunk. Sorry. No trick.

Anyways. Tomorrow morning at 12:00 it will sure be noticed when TLUG do it’s first public show-off as a LUG. We’re handing out free Ubuntu-CD’s and flyers with information about TLUG, Linux, SPIST and Skolelinux. If you happen to be near Trondheim, join in. We’ll be at the top of Nordre St. for about two hours or even longer. The point is to show that we’re here, and that we’re doing something. Join the ranks of the free OS users!

On Sunday I’ll put up a little something for you who did not make it to the show on Saturday. Stay put, we’re about to brace for impact.

The aftermath of a tooth
Dec 14th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

To loose a part of your body may seem as something hard to grasp. To me it was like waking up in the middle of a nightmare and not knowing that I had been dreaming. It turned out that I had not lost the whole tooth after all. It was one quarter of it. As weird as it may seem, I were happy with that. What happened afterwards I am not quite so happy with. The dentist had a jolly good time for 45 minutes fixing up my mouth and the pain.. the pain.. the pain were too bad to explain here in written words. After some hours I got a painkiller from Jorunn and it quickly faded. For the past two days I have been trying to grasp the fact that I no longer have a pure mouth. I have now two teeth-replacements in it, and they both look weird and feel ‘different’.

Also in other news, the tickets for The Gathering 2005 are sold out, again, or nearly. As of this morning there were about 800 tickets in the queue and twice as many people waiting in the virtual ticket-row to get one. This year I’ll be going there again, to laugh, play, enjoy and to be a part of the worlds greatest computerparty. Maybe not the largest any more, but by far the best 🙂 Hope you’ll all will come 🙂

AuLAN:Heat is also prodding forward and we have, as written earlier landed quite a few nice partners for the event. Novell and Canonical Ltd. are well respected companies and now it may seem we’re about to get even more. Trondheim Kommune, by the citys board for children and youth have decided to sponsor the ticket-bands for the attendees. PC1, one of the nice PC-shops in the city have told that they’re happy to provide us with two kick-ass computers to serve as servers in the main serverpool, along with some gifts to give out as prices in competitions. Currently, 135 people have signed up for tickets, and the party is still more than two months out. 🙂

teeth: shift left?
Dec 10th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

I had lunch. Ate a piece of bread with cheese and ham and all of a sudden I felt that something was wrong in my mouth. I put a finger in there and after a few seconds I had a large chunk of one of my lower left side teeth in my hand. The inner half of it had just broken off. I quickly flushed my mouth with not too cold water and called for a appointment with a dentist. I’m going there in 40 minutes to get this fixed, I hope. It feels strange right now and it’s kinda hard to talk. Darn. More later.

Deep in it
Dec 10th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

Last night I was totally out of line. I fell asleep on the couch at 2130 or around that time. That’s not very good is it? Crawled myself to bed around 2200. Too bad for me the new neighbors one floor above have decided to place their ‘band-equipment’ a.k.a. a bass-guitar and an amplifier just above my bedroom. How nice of them. From Jhonny Cash-DDE-loving to Black Metal-playing longhaired neighbors in just two weeks. The joy of moving along! Just 7 months to go now!

Since I slept from around 2130 I woke up at 0310 all from myself. That was very strange for once. No alarms, no rush, just a pure ‘waking up’ feeling. After putting my feet on the floor I quickly moved to the computer room, or NOC as I tend to call it. There I found myself not all alone on IRC and chatted for an hour before I did the dishes in the kitchen. The I cleaned some in the livingroom. All this without making any sound to awake my new neighbors. In between i did a total of 110 situps, ate one piece of crisp bread, had a glass of milk and then vacuumcleaned the livingroom floor since the clock had passed 0730. All in all I’ve had a great morning, and I don’t really think going to bed early is such a bad idea sometimes. I think the rest of the day will be good too, as there seem to be much fun at work today. We’re shipping off a huge chunk of hardware to customers, and more are coming in to be configured. That’s something to do atleast 🙂

Jorunn has an exam today, and I expect that she’ll want me to be Mr. Incredible after I end the workday, that means, to make a good dinner and make sure she doesn’t have to think about exams for a few days. What’s your weekend plans? Tell me all about them!

SPIST, TLUG, and AuLAN:Heat on the rise
Dec 9th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

It’s fun when your commitment pays off. Now it may seem that finally it does and all of a sudden in three parts of my organizational work. Let’s begin with SPIST. SPIST is all about spreading the Skolelinux project to as many schools as possible in the southern region of middle Norway. This will be achieved through tailored talks with politicians, school boards, principals, the IT-dept. and their likes. Last night we held a meeting about the future of SPIST and we came to the point when we realized that we need a broad sword, but also a precise scalpel. SPIST can be the scalpel, TLUG may well serve as the broad sword.

Trondheim Linux User Group never have had the potential to talk to politicians on many levels, nor nurture the Skolelinux project into the hands and jobs of IT-depts. What TLUG has is about is the ability to help out, stand on the street corner and tell people about Linux. Hold open meetings, generate press coverage, do install-jobs for fun and free and generally be the backbone help the Linux-users in this region may seek in times of trouble. Next Saturday, the 18th of December, we’re going to hold such an event. TLUG is going out on the bussy streets to preach about Linux to the masses. Kicking off at 12:00 at the top of Nordre st. in central Trondheim we’re going to hand out free Live- and Install-CD’s with Ubuntu Linux along with a A4-page flyer about Linux, TLUG, SPIST and the great new options people now have. Want to join? Please do!

While SPIST and TLUG are prodding along, so are the planning of AuLAN:Heat. Yesterday we landed the great deal of AuLAN:Heat getting Novell onboard as a premium sponsor of our computerparty. Novell will hand out CD’s to all attendees and possibly hold a mini-conference about Linux. Currently we’re in talks with local Novell-partners to achieve a little press about this. We’re also investigating the option with giving everyone at the party a free t-shirt. That’d be cool. A real memory from the largest, most successful computerparty ever held in Trondheim, or even the region of middle Norway at all. So. Today’s going to be good. I love such days!.

Woke up at 0530, got out of the sheets at 0538, and got to the gym at 0628, just in time for it to open. After 1 hour and 40 minutes of workout I am not comfortably sitting in my chair in the offices at Grep thinking about what to do and who to plague with my Linux- and computerparty-enthusiasm during the free spots in the workschedule.

Some links are due. SPISTTLUGAuLAN:Heat – Join the crowd!
