Sometimes things just suck. Today I’ve worked my ass of for six hours trying to get this customer on the phone. He did not want to play ball and kept avoiding my calls. To get through my boss took over and called with his phone, and, the customer answered. I got the deal landed just 30 minutes ago, but I feel no joy. I know the company will make good money from the deal and everything, but it does not feel good when you have to *hunt* someone for them to answer. Especialy when they have already told you that they’d agreed, but then changed their mind, and changed it again.
I’m just glad I also landed another important deal, even if it’s a Microsoft-thingie, it’s good for business. Tick-tack.. it’s soon weekend!
Another day passes, and today I feel I’ve done good so far. At work things have gone smother than anticipated. We have a bussy month up ahead, and the boss gave us a speak about that. I did get a few old camels out of the barn and got rid of some paperwork.
Later today I’ll try to locate some more of my stuff in the enormous amount of unpacked stuff at home. I wonder if we’ll ever finish moving in :p
After our moving yesterday I went to a little workout this morning. Waking up at 0620 was a breeze and I had no problem getting out of bed and doing some running on the mill. Back home I ate some with Jorunn – our first breakfast in the new home 🙂
Around lunch I figured that I had forgotten the powersuply for my laptop at home, so I had to go back home and find it. I also found the USB-connector for the camera, so.. Here they are, the first pictures from DHG15!:

If anyone would like to visit us, sure, go ahead, but you need to remember that we’re still a bit uhm.. in the process of packing out.
After working everyones ass off for a mere 14 hours we’re MOVED!No longer will the garden known as nerdehaven be, it’s all a part of history with this historic day in my life completed.
Please say hello to NERDEHAVNEN, the new home of Anders & Jorunn.
I’m very tired now. A big big big thank you goes out to everyone that made this day possible. A very special thank you to Jorunn who held out when I had my temper twisting my speak and my nerves dangling on the outside of my body. Thank you. It’s all the beginning of something that’ll never.. 🙂
I gave in. After 9 years of Slackwareism on my machines my desktop had it coming a long way. Last night I had the final blow as Slackware (and probably me, a bit tired) failed to allow me to burn a simple iso with cdrecord. I gave the brand new Hoary install-CD-kit a try. In about 1 hour of basic config and apt-get the whole system was up running again. The advantage of having most of the files you use on a separate disk became aparent. I can basicly change OS any day I want, as long as it supports ext3. Nice to know. Ofcourse there are always things that goes ‘not like planned’ when you install something. I had to add a few packages and fine-tune apt to get java working, but when I had sorted that, and the flash-issue, things we’re looking pretty neat.
Half a day into Ubuntu-desktopism I feel a bit weird. It’s been fun to do all those library dependency fixes and hack away on my own little system. I guess this only means that I have to find a little box to put in the closet and play with instead.
One problem remains yet — My Gnome-session tend to "freeze" up after a while. The cursor of the mouse still works, and the music plays from Xmms. I can even log in with ssh from remote and do stuff, but the session is not workable. The keyboard does not allow me to switch to any tty and no clicking of the mouse changes anything. No sign of error have been found in my logs either. I’ve tried a few settings on xorg.conf too see if they helped, but so far, no luck. Any help on this, or a light moment would be very welcome. I never had this problem while using Slackware on the same hardware. No HW have been changed etc.
In about ten/eleven days, 23rd of August 2005 we’ll be moving in at Solsiden, Nedre Elvehavn. The Docks have been seeing a huge boom of new buildings the past five years, and I’m looking forward to explore and enjoy a new place to live.
Currently we have resolved the following items that we had on our ‘must have’ list:Washer/dryer, sofa, 3 footstools, a livingroom table, a large IKEA-shelf for the TV, wine, books etc, icecrusher, shaker and a blender. From before we got a suitable bed, some shelves for the office-room, another shelf for the bedroom, a dining-table complete with four chairs, a rug for the bedroom and a bunch of kitchen-things.
So, what do we need now? Only time will show. With ten days left to go I have problems sleeping, not to mention eat regulary and such 🙂
This weekend I went to Røros and visited Jorunn. Well, that is, I came there to spend the weekend with her and bring her back to Trondheim on Sunday. We had some very good wok-food (both Friday and Saturday), and even got time to stop by three local pubs to see if we could find anyone she knew. We also took time to walk the dog around in the desert. Very strange to find a desert so sudden, in between all the wood and green fields. I only checked my email once during the weekend and felt very relaxed upon returning to Trondheim.
Last night I had a little bikeride all on my own just to get my legs stretched after the traintrip. Seems like it’s going to be one today too.
Yesterday I started a five day celebration of my own body. That is, I figured that I’d better get rid of the extra buildup that have returned with the slow life this summer. So, I dragged myself down to a gym and did about 1,5 hours of workout, followed by a little bikeride around the southwestern parts of Trondheim (Heimdal/Byåsen). Made a few notes about that over at Wheelz.Biz (norwegian).
Let’s have a quick look at what a network geek can do in about one hour of spare time on a Sunday afternoon. The point here is to look a bit back and figure out what the heck I did to end up reading the webpages of ‘What The Hack‘, a hacker conference in .nl held next weekend.
