The spark of Sparkle (..Baby wants to ride)
June 17th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

At aprox. 2300 CEST Jun 15th 2004 the wonder of NetCore shifted into a new phase as sparkle launched its services into orbit. On the morning of the 16th such services as webmail, Antivirus, Antispam and some niffy mailgraphs were all humming nicely together. During the day some minor faults and errors were solved and the machine was once more rebooted at 2230 CEST last nite to make sure everything was in order. It still seem so.

Sparkle will offer NetCore-hosted projects, people and organisations the advantages of SSL-enabled services such as Qmailadmin,SpamAssassin,IMAP,POP3 & Webmail. Those lucky enough to have a login-shell will know that underneath the hood the server boost a HyperThreading Pentium 4 Proccessor with 2.8Ghz to play. A FSB of 800 Mhz and 512 MB DDR RAM will help with its tasks. The storage is covered by a S-ATA RAID 1 solution with two 120 GB disks. Non-critical system-stuff such as the / partition is on a 36 GB disk, for easy upgrade if needed. The whole shebang runs Gentoo Linux. This moves the total of flavours of *nix’es in NetCore up by one, into 3 (Slackware Linux, Gentoo Linux, FreeBSD (Debian GNU/Linux in the planning).

In my personal life there is not much happening. I’m trying to recover from my little bikeride the other day by taking walks and doing some time off from training, but I just can’t help it, I am starting to feel the urge to ride the bike, go for a walk or just do some real workout. It finally seems like my body have gotten the push and that I am now not only a geek, but well on the road of becomming a sports-enthusiast too. Weird stuff, this geek.

On friday there is a little party in the Trondheim Spektrum arena. Next week tho, there is a little more party along with some more work, and maybe Morten T (Knoter) will come visist. Time will show. Now I really have to work some more. TTYL kids. And don’t forget the TLUG BBQ next tuesday!
