I’m really no big fan of those fancy redflag-marches that have become yet again sortof popular on the 1st of May. So in light of this I woke up late, at aprox. 1300, had a bottle of water, IRC’ed some.. and then out of the clear blue sky I decided to go biking some. At about this time the clock had gotten to be 1400-1410, and the sun was shining. I asked on IRC if anyone would like to join me on a little bikeride, .. to Stjørdal. I actually got an answer from ‘trol0s’, or Alexander if you like. We decided to meet up at 1445 in a local park, and off we went. No planning, no big ideas, just a bikeride.
After riding through town we got out in the open across the fields around Ranheim and headed further north through Malvik until we came to Hommelvik. There we had to decide if to climb the really huge road up the hill towards Stjørdal or to go along the coast, near the railway. We decided for the later, and rided towards the fjord. At first the old road seemed fine and dandy. Then, the asphalt disapaired, leaving us with a wooden road with lots of grass, but still, it had tracks from some sort of vehicle. Further on we hit rocks and more wooden roots popped up all over leaving us no choice but to walk with the bikes. Then we found a sign, telling us about that this part of the road was from 1859!. I mean, 1859, thats _old_. The infosign closed off with wishing us “good luck on old and partly disolved roads”. Woha!. Then we found a bench, so we stopped and had some water wich Alexander had been smart enough to bring. He also had an apple for each. Very nice move!
A little further on we had to put the bikes up on our shoulders to climb a little rocks. A sign told us that here, the making of the railway in the 50ies had caused the old road to tumble down into the sea, but that it would show up a little to the north. Okay.. No problem there? 20 meters up and 20 meters to the north the road came back, so we climbed back down along a wooden path covered with more roots. Luckily for us the road soon turned into a more reliable thing with less roots so we could bike again, and we soon found some houses and streetlights. Back to the asphalt again.
So, it was back up the final hill towards Stjørdal. Climbing off our bikes about halfway we took pictures along the roadsign with the municipal border between the north and southern Trøndelag. The pic of me with my bike can be found here. The last hill away, it was just cruising down to “Central” Stjørdal and the local gas-station for a bottle of water and an Icecream. Those 110 kcal was really worth it!
After some relaxing at the railstation we headed towards the airport and took the airport shuttle-bus back to Trondheim since we did not feel quite up for the task of riding those 35 km’s back. All in all the ride for me was 44 km’s including some minor riding from Trondheim central station and back home.
The whole thing was quite awsome and I belive I will go for some other ride some day soon, or maybe when I return from Spain, oh btw, I’m going to Spain next week. 🙂
