No news is good news, Self-focused smackdown
Sep 14th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

In times of war mothers wait, dreading the letter that may come from the high command. So it may be with this weblog too. In times of peace there is not much to write about. Life goes on the lines that have been set for it, and I walk along, unknowing of the future. To those of you who may wonder what’s up, it’s really not much. I go to work every morning at 800~900 and work until 1615~ when I either go home, to workout or to Samfundet. As of late I have maybe written a little too much about Samfundet, and some of you may get tired of the constant noise about it, but then again, this is me, at my most selfcentric. As a friend of mine so gently put it the other day: ‘I am so sick and tired of your self-focus’. Okay, granted, I am self-focused, but who am I suppose to focus on if not myself? I have responsibilties at work to do my job the way it shall be done, at Samfundet I do my work there the way I am instructed by my leaders, and in my spare-time I may do what the heck I want to do. Self-focus may look bad from time to time, but until my social status changes drastically I will keep the current flag running high.

To those it may concern: I am in good shape. I feel good about myself. I enjoy workouts, long geeky nights. Getting drunk, eating home-made food. Familiy gatherings are also enjoyable from time to time. Bikerides, can’t really live without them. IRC ( — yes, I have to put that in there with the love. I really really do LOVE IRC. It’s such a fun medium to play with.) In other words; keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer. You should feel every breath of your enemy. It’s how you know his weakness when it comes to smackdown. Just like this weblog will be self-focused and evolve around me until the end of days.

Saturday night, dance, I likeThe way you movePretty babyIt’s party time and not oneMinute we can loseBe my babyDa ba da dan dee dee dee daNee na na na, be my babyDa ba da dan dee dee dee daNee na na na, Pretty babyOh yeah, Wigfield – Saturday Night never died for those who were young at the beginning of the 1990’ies. To be honest, I love that song. It’s easy, it’s fun, and I have great memories of cute girls in my class at school doing the dance routine from it at the various school-dances. To night it’s Saturday night and I am going to dance. Not until 0300 or so, when I finish up being a guard at Samfundet. This week have been a lot of fun. Earlier today I took a bikeride with Magnus (meheeco) and put another 31 km’s behind the wheelz(.biz).Funny how time changes things. Ttyl.

The weekend starts here..

..In the mix with Kai Tracid .. Straight to the club. Or maybe not. At 1615 I go to Samfundet to clean some. Then at 18ish people start to pop up at my house for a small pre-party. After that.. Only those alive will know. Maybe Side Brok at Samfundet? I think that’s going to kick ass :p

Tomorrow I’ll do a workout, and a bikeride. Then we’ll see about the rest. What are you doing this weekend?

Tired
Sep 5th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

After one of the most active weekends in a long time I feel good about going back to work tomorrow. On Friday I got so drunk that I don’t remember being dragged home by Stein Magnus (jodal) and Magnus. Yesterday we sang, danced on the tables and got insanely drunk. I came home at about noon today, and that’s all I’m going to say about that.

Tonight I joined in with Anders (NoModE) and some other technoheads for some food at Milano, Møllenberg. Nice little place. Had a cheese and ham salad with water. While we ate we talked about ideas for parties in Trondheim and some good ideas spawned. Hope some of those will be put into play.

Monday soon, things to do and places to be. Ttyl kids.

Bottoms up!

Friday. Friday the 3rd of September 2004. It may be a very ordinary Friday to most of you, but to me, today is special. Tonight I am to be ‘drunken in’ by the IT Committee at the Student Society (Samfundet). The evening kicks off with a dinner, then we’re suppose to head over to Samfundet for some more stuff, wich I am not certain about. The only things I know are that It’ll include alcohol, and lots of geeky ideas.

In other news Tollef (Mithrandi) and Karianne (Simira) ate dinner at my house last night. I think they enjoyed the beef, yet there was a little too much food, so I am stuck with some rice and other such items as tomatoes. The wine were good too, a Castello Don Diabelo 2003 from Chile. Read about it in a paper a week ago, and decided to try it. Red wine are good with meat, so, that matched quite ok. After the food we had icecream. I think it’s been a while since I had icecream. It was very good. Watched ‘Kill Bill I’, then after doing email, I went to bed.

I have enrolled in the two subjects I think I’ll try to pass this IT1103 includes learning Java. That’ll be weird. I’ve never done much programming before. IT2202 teaches Operating Systems. Both shall be passed. I’m buying the Programming in Java-book today, and the first lesson is also due today. Way to go huh?

Yesterday we moved between 80 and 100 outranged/disposed computers from IDI/NTNU to a farm where the Skolelinux-project will distribute the computers between schools who would like to get into the Linnux-project. The computers and their monitors got moved in just under 3 hours. That’s quite impressing! A big thanks to everyone who helped out!

A new era
Sep 1st, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

Last week, Friday I think, I had an unanswered call on my cellphone while I was working out at the gym. The call orginated from a number owned by the Student society of Trondheim. I decided to call back, and in the other end of the line Magnus, the ring leader of the IT-committee (ITK) answered.

He asked who I was, and I responded. Moving along he told me that ITK would like to offer me a place on their committee. Having gone through the interview only a few days earlier, I was quite amused by hearing this, and gratefully accepted the offer. The shock of having made one of my long-time wishes come true made the adrenalin pump so fast in my body that I just had to do another workout, hence I ended up doing a total of 4 hours of workout on Friday.

To some of you the whole idea of being happy about getting something more to do in your spare time may seem odd. Granted, some people have weird hobbies, so do I, it’s called ‘a keen interest in the workings of computer systems, networks and the ‘stuff’ that surrounds them’. To become a member of ITK puts me right where I feel at home. In a geeky, yet friendly and social functioning group of people that wish to do good for their fellow students in the society. Already there seem to be some things I will get to work with that I might enjoy, and some things that I may dislike, but yet, have to deal with. Like in any job, you can’t love it all. Taking on the task of administrating a Windows server may not be what I long most for, but I’ll do my best to make it work, and from doing such things at work, I know, that it’s possible to do it from Linux.

To make the weekend and the Monday even more absurd I reached my goal of hitting 77 Kg’s on Monday afternoon. Weighing in at 77.2 Kg’s on Monday evening was good enough for me, and when I came to ITK at Samfundet to do my first meeting with the others I felt so good that I granted myself a piece of chocolate cake that suddenly showed up in the room. I can tell you, that cake was good..!

Yesterday I worked, then I did a two hour workout at the gym before I got home and ate pizza for dinner. Feeling good about my weight and the minor milestone of jogging 15 minutes without feeling tired during the workout made the evening complete. To make sure things were to be even better I fixed the broken tire on my bike and biked over to Samfundet and finished up a task I had been given before todays meeting. The task, ‘create a portable sizable version of TormodG with a clue and access all areas’. Okay.. So I created a mini-Tormod, sortof. Pic’s will be online later if I get around to take some.

Today it’s the first day of a new month. September will be a long, good month. First there’s the meeting today, and before that some workout. Then there’s Friday.. more about that later. Saturday a friend has a party in his new house, and on Sunday, there’s dinner with my dad and stephmom. I can’t even wait to finish work! So much to do! woha!

Endgames: 1 day to go
Aug 29th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

As of 2300 today I weigh 78 kg’s and only have one more to deal with tomorrow. That will be a very huge task, but I know I can do it. So here goes.. The final 24 hours of the first year of the slim-akai project. Bodyfat – Beware, I am coming to downsize you!

Endgames: 2 days to go — kick it
Aug 28th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

With two days to go I have 1.5~2 Kg’s to go and I don’t know if I will make it. But I try. I try hard. Yesterday I had three to four hours at the gym. Today I’ll just do a bikeride, 20 km or something.

I’ll also go to Club-Wonderland today and also show up at Samfundet after that I guess. I should probably have been up a little earlier today and gotten a few bottles from the local store.

Anyways.. I think I’ll go bikeride now. Ttyl.

Endgames: 5 days to go – Way too much things to do!
Aug 25th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

The past days have been a real kick up the hill. I am currently surfing along with 79 Kg’s and are waiting for a chance to see if I can reach 78..

To night I did a graveyardshift job at work. The datacenter needed some UPS-switcharound and the task fell on my shoulders. Not that I felt it as much of a burden, it was just the thing that made me stay offline and do something interesting instead. The UPS’s are all humming smoothly now, and I think I’ll go to bed soon.

The 23rd of August was Andreas (falxx) birthday, and we (me, Anders (andai) and Svein (ph)) showed up on his doorstep with some chocolate cake complete with 22 candles and some coca-cola. We also had hats and those niffy whistles that make those sad blowing sounds when you try all you can to make a nice elephant trumpet sound. I think he enjoyed our visit.

The 24rd was Einar (masons) birthday, and also my grandfathers. After a workout at the gym, I went to a TLUG-meeting at NTNU before I biked up to say hello to the family who were all eating cake. I did not have any. After putting my workoutwear in the washingmachine I decided to bikeride a little more before the work with the UPS’es. Hence, I took a 1 hour ride around town. Then I had some chicken salad before biking over to work and fix the UPS thingie. Now, it’s time to sleep some!
