NHQDB revamp
Aug 6th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

The Quote DB have gotten a facelift since I decided that I should learn some more coding. With the aid of Richard (igu) and Alan (alz) and some support from coworkers I have been able to learn about such wonderful php-functions as ‘nl2br‘, htmlentities and their likes. Armed with knowledge of how PHP can be abused to create an even better QDB I have used some time now both at work and at home to learn myself PHP and use it in a realworld project — NHQDB v2. 🙂

Today it’s Friday, and I am wondering where I put that Dr. Dre tune wich I would like to round up the week with playing at the office, you know; “..Thank God it’s Friday.. The bells are ringin.. ..ring ding dong, ring a ding ding dong”. Old classic 🙂

Today also marks the end of the holidays all over southern Norway, so we may expect some heavy callcenter activities on Monday morning. Better do some bikeriding and workouts this weekend then, to be in shape to handle it. Ttyl.

I, geek — and then some.
Aug 5th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

When you come to think of it, the new and coming movie this weekend here in Norway will be a pure baseline plot for the story behind Arnold Schwarzeneggers “Terminator” and “Terminator 2”. While much more friendly looking Will Smith plays the role as the “I, Robot” this time, the choral is all the same. Robots will take over unless we do remedy first and become robots ourself. Aye.

To be quite frank, I came up with an more interesting movie title due to this film coming out. The novel named “I, geek” will be produced shortly, or maybe not. I can’t possibly think of any real audience for it. It’s not like we geeks are silly or uninteresting people, it’s just that our way of life may be a little too internal for the broad audience. I believe we have to act up and create some ISSUES if we are to get more attention to our basic needs. On a sidenote I would like to announce my deep sympathy with all other fellow sysadmins who did notreceive gratitudes on the Sysadmin day, 30th of July. I hope someone will remember it next year. I will be sending out notes about it upfront!

It’s so far been a bussy week. At work we’re heading deep into the IP-space with new services being born. I may not be able to tell you much at the current point, but we’re flirting with some quite interesting ideas for new business. To further make you wonder: – Name one service that will be the single most important buzzword in the technology buzzword-bingo this autumn? If you got your shorts on backwards this morning you may have guessed the answer. If not, just follow the media closely 🙂

Last nite I took my body to Pirbadet and got around 1350 meters of swimming before I felt good about myself. I was suppose to have gone bikeriding too, but skipping that did not feel as much of a problem. 20 minutes in the sauna also helped. To round off the day Uninett had an outage on the line between oslo-gw1 (That’s in Oslo for you sheeps out there) and kjeller-gw (That’s at Kjeller), where you find the server this page is on, Igloo (igloo.netcore.no). Hence the page was down. Sorry ’bout that, not much I can do about it tho.

New section: about friends, Issues with tlf.cx
Aug 3rd, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

Since I felt like hacking some PHP+MySQL at work today I decided to ramp up another section on my homepage. You may now find my brief or not so brief description of various friends at the Page about friends. The idea behind the page is that people who visit nerdehaven may get to read something about the folks I hang with. The descriptions will be updated when I feel like, wich pretty much summons the way all my webpages are built up.

I have also, pending response from the rest of the NetCore Board removed a few flicks from public sight on tlf.cx after Igloo got shut down by a nullroute from the network due to heavy traffic. The files dearpenis.swf and wholetthedogsout.swf have been removed, and this have actually made the daily average transfered data drop from above 200 GB to just 5 in two days. I have also been tailing the logfiles to see where the hits on the files come from, and it seems that tlf.cx have been the number one suply of bandwith for a range of commercial cites packed with ads who now are either going to need to find the renamed files or just get it from somewere else. I hope this helps on the bw-issues we have had lately. I’d rather let tlf.cx slowly die out rather than see Igloo go as there are 150 other webpages I care more about on it. Don’t you think so too?

beer, good
Aug 1st, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

Had a party last nite. At a public beach. That was fun, until some idiot wanted to fight. But after that it was fun too. The whole thing was fun. Now I am a bit tired. I think I’m going to have a slow day without much of anything.

some days off
Jul 27th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

I have taken a few days off from work. I haven’t done much tho. Biked some, been drunk, slept, had a really cosy little half week off. On thursday I will be back on track at Grep tho, to do some more work. Biked the usual route today, Dragvoll/Lade is becoming a routine quite fast. I don’t feel the ride from home up to Dragvoll as more than a mere warmup any longer. It used to be hard, now its just for fun. I love life. Tomorrow I’ll go to the gym and try to do some stuff there.

I want to introduce you all to a bikeriding club. The webpages are (for now) norwegian only, but that may be subject to change, atleast if we decide to start to compete with other teams. The main goal of our bikeclub is to have fun, get some hours behind our backs each week and generally ..bikeride. If you are bored enough, or just curious, you can go visit us here.

Today I woke up feeling incredible tired. I guess it is because its Friday, and that I know that I dont have to go to work until Thursday next week. I am taking some days off, mainly to do workouts, bikeride, sleep a bit longer and gear up for all the work ahead. Just 3 days tho, but it will help. If you are in town, and feel like having some fun, go for a ride, watch a movie or just chill; give me a ping. You know (for sure) how to reach me.

Good morning sunshine – the mark is set, bike I will
Jul 22nd, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

It’s something special to wake up to the sun shining through your bedroom window at 730. Today it was. Its just half past nine in the morning, but its still above 20 C outside. I really look forward to do some bikeriding after work today. I think I will create myself a mixcd for the ocation and go for a little 40-50 km long ride just for the fun of it. Wanna join?.

In brief: A good weekend
Jul 19th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

On Friday I took an early dive and slept from at about 0100 (Saturday actually) to be in shape for the bikeride to Stjørdal and back home. The bikeride came long on a sunbeam, with a beautiful morning, 12C and light wind from the southeast. Hooked up with Magnus at Øya and biked over to Christians at Chalottenlund. At aprox 10.15 we left Cha and moved towards Stjørdal. Well underway we decided to take the extra time to go visit Magnus’ Grandma, and so we did. That made the grand total of the tour a 113 km’s. I am specially pleased with how well the climbing up the hills around Stjørdal went as I have been having seccond thoughts about them ever since the 1. of may when I had to skip the ride back to Trondheim.

On Saturday evening there was a party. Not much more to be written about that really. 20 or so people popped by, we had some alcohol, listened to music and it was quite nice. Hope to do that again sometime. In two weeks there are SP, along with Club-Wonderlands House of Love, wich both will be nice events. I hope to mannage to go to both, even tho I don’t belive there will be time.

Today I set of another week of training, hoping to get rid of another Kilo. I am not sure if I will be able to, but, I want to try this week to. Kicking the week of is a bikeride with Magnus and Christian just after work.

\’Cause I am 83.
Jul 16th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

Yes that is correct. I now weigh 83 kilograms. This made me think of an old classical milencollin-tune: ’22’. The chorus goes a little something like this: ’cause I am 83, dunno what I am suppose to do, or how to do to pull some more kilos out of me..’, or maybe not :p Anyways. Today sums up my past two week long “training and weightloss”-period, and I must say that with a little effort and focus on spending on food, bikerides, walking and situps I have been able to still drop around 1 kg each week. That is very good in my eyes. It show’s that the ultimate goal of 77 may not be too far off into the east as I thought it was. Maybe! Just maybe, I can get there some day. And if not, I really dont care any longer. This is just great!

And later today I will make a nice beef for dinner and watch a movie with some friends. hah! what a week 🙂 Ttyl.

A long nights sleep
Jul 15th, 2004 by Anders Kringstad

Two days ago I woke up at 2330 PM just to find myself unable to go to rest again until after I came from work. After watching the finnish of the Tour De France-leg of the day I decided to do a little afternoon nap. Hence, I went to bed. At 0519 this morning I woke up. Thats a good 12 hours of sleep! Woha! Guess who took a little extra bikeride to work today? Guess who are very ready for a very nice weekend? (Too darn bad there is a lot of carbohydrates in beer tho, but I’m gonna drink ’em anyway!). The race is set. Get your shirt and shoes ready. It’s partytime. Kicking off with a dinner and some movie tomorrow afternoon I will have a “all play no work”-weekend with absolute timeout. On saturday we’re planning on riding up to Stjørdal on our bikes tho, that’s gonna be a very nice ride. Will home again in due time for beer and partying. 😛 Now I got to thinker up some new projects to work on at work.. so, ttyl 🙂
